What Happens After You’re Arrested or Turn Yourself In
Whether you have been physically arrested or there is a warrant out for your arrest and you are planning on turning yourself in, you need to be prepared for what’s to come. Once you are brought in to the police department, you will be booked. This is where all of your information and the charges against you are processed into the system.
After you’ve been booked, you will then head to court and issue your plea of guilty or not guilty. Then, the judge will then set your bail. This is where your attorney will be able to help, as we will have been working rigorously to set up your release for soon after your bail has been set. Once your bail has been paid, you can be released from jail.
Getting Out of Jail
Although it’s easy to say that once your bail has been paid you can be released, it is, unfortunately, a little more complicated than that. There are a couple of different ways we can arrange your bail, depending on the individual circumstances of your case.
First, you can pay a cash bond. There is no need for a bail bondsman at this point if you have the money upfront. However, most people do not have these exorbitant funds available, and will seek a surety bond. This is where the bondsman will cover the cost of the bail on your behalf and you or family puts up only a fraction of the cost.
There is also a chance that you won’t need to pay bail at all if you are released on your own recognizance (ROR). In these cases, you need only agree to appear in court on your court date and then show up. Your lawyer will do everything possible to obtain ROR where possible.
